Business Trips to Japan Expected to be Made Easier

The Japanese government may shorten the quarantine period of those who enter for business purposes.

The Nikkei reported on Nov. 2 that the Japanese government is considering shortening the quarantine period of those who enter for business purposes from 10 days to three and the new quarantine period may become effective on Nov. 8.

Previously, the period was two weeks regardless of the purpose of entry. Last month, it was adjusted to 10 days in the case of those fully vaccinated. The new quarantine period of three days is likely to be limited to those fully vaccinated and entering for business purposes. They may be allowed to use public transportation and dine together on condition that they have tested negative and their whereabouts are shared with companies they are related to.

According to the newspaper, the Japanese government may allow foreign students and trainees to enter, which has been banned in principle since the beginning of this year, on condition of whereabouts sharing, is planning to maintain the ban when it comes to tourists, and is considering raising the daily entry limit from 3,500 to 5,000 persons late this month.

This is because the spread of COVID-19 in Japan is slowing down and a freer movement of people is being increasingly called for in Japan. In addition, the other G7 countries, that is, the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom are already relaxing their restrictions.
