KT Introduces 5G-based Self-driving Carts
5G-based self-driving carts “Nargo” and “Targo” automatically transport smartphones to designated storage locations at KT’s Western Logistics Center in Goyang City, Gyeonngi Province.
Non-face-to-face work innovation is spreading to industrial logistics sites.
KT announced on May 24 that it has deployed 5G-based self-driving carts for smartphone carriage at its Western Logistics Center in Goyang City, Gyeonggi Province. The carts were jointly developed by KT and Twinny Co., a Korean software development company.
KT said the self-driving carts reduced workers’ travel distance by 47 percent. Encourage by the result, KT is planning to supply the 5G self-driving carts and control systems for transport of small-sized cargoes at various industrial sites such as hospitals and libraries.
The new carts are dubbed Nargo and Targo. Nargo runs ahead of Targo. Nargo can efficiently carry a large quantity of cargo at one time. Targo follows a worker and is suitable for carrying various types of cargoes in a wide area.
These carts can either self-drive based on indoor maps of industrial sites and information that they collect in real time or follow control signals from a control center. KT’s integrated mobility platform called “5G Mobility Makers” was applied to these carts’ autonomous driving.
