Hyundai Engineering & Construction (E&C) has won a railway construction project in the Philippines.
A consortium formed by Hyundai E&C will build the first section of the Malolos to Clark Railway for US$573 million. Hyundai E&C’s portion is US$330 million (57.5 percent). The company received a letter of award from the Philippine Department of Transportation on Sept. 18.
The consortium includes Megawide, a local construction company, and Dong-A Geological Engineering, a Korean company specializing in civil engineering work.
The project is the first one Hyundai E&C will carry out in the Philippines since it built a new Asian Development Bank (ADB) headquarters building in 1986.
The Malolos to Clark Railway is a 53-km-long north-south railway linking Malolos and Clark in northern Manila. Of the five sections, Hyundai E&C will build the first section, which includes two ground stations and about a 17-km-long elevated bridge. It will take 48 months to complete.
