Experts who assessed the Samsung Compliance Committee’s activities in the recent trial of Samsung Electronics vice chairman Lee Jae-yong submitted their 83-page final report to the court on Dec. 14. The three experts are former Constitutional Court judge Kang Il-won, Yulchon attorney Kim Kyung-soo and accountant Hong Soon-tak.
The former judge designated by the court expressed a positive view on the activities. The accountant recommended by special prosecutors and the attorney recommended by the defense counsel showed split views. It is said that the former judges’ opinion will act as a casting vote.
The experts looked into 18 detailed items in the three categories of the committee’s effectiveness, the effectiveness of compliance monitoring in Samsung subsidiaries and the sustainability of the strengthened compliance monitoring. The former judge expressed a positive view on 10, neutral on two and negative on six.
In the meantime, the court will listen to the opinions of the special prosecutors and the defense counsel at a hearing scheduled for 2:05 p.m. Dec. 21.
